Human rights activists based in Osun State yesterday staged a
rally to mark the 2014 World Human Rights Day with a call on the
government at the centre to end with immediate effect various human
rights abuses in the country particularly insecurity, corruption,
impunity and executive lawlessness.
The human rights activists held the rally at the Nelson Mandela
Freedom Park in Osogbo where they demanded also reduction in the fuel
pump price following the drastic fall of crude oil prices in the
international market.
They specifically called on President Goodluck Jonathan to address
the insecurity challenges in the nation with all seriousness and
security of purpose, adding that “the most fundamental human right is
the right to life and dignity.”
