Sequel to a visit on Tuesday by a team from the National
Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to
apologise for the shoddy distribution of Permanent Voters’ Card in Lagos
State, Governor Babatunde Fashola, on Saturday re-registered alongside
his wife, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola, for the voters card to be
used in the 2015 general elections.
Met on arrival at 9.30am by the state’s INEC Resident Electoral
Commissioner, Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola, and other officials at Ward G3 Unit
E002m in State Junior Grammar School, Itolo Street, Surulere, Governor
Fashola and the First Lady joined other residents of the area to
undertake the registration processes again after which he was presented
with another temporary voters card by the Resident Electoral
Commissioner.
During an interview with journalists after receiving the card,
Fashola urged all residents of the state who have not registered to do
so irrespective of challenges being experienced in the process.
“All I will say is that people, no matter how difficult they make
this, your love for democracy must be bigger than your inconvenience”,
the governor declared.
Displaying both cards, Fashola noted that there is no difference
between the Temporary Voter’s Card he collected in 2011 and the one INEC
has just issued to him now. “This is the card they gave me in 2011,
this is the one they have given me again, so I still do not see the
difference”, he said.
It would be recalled that the governor and his wife could not obtain
their Permanent Voters Card when INEC commenced the staggered
distribution in Surulere Local Government last week.
