In order to boost the performance of students in science
related subjects and also stimulate interest of students in the
sciences, Dufil Prima Foods has donated a complete set of science
laboratory equipment to Surulere Senior Secondary School, Lagos.
The school which had been for a long time without laboratory
equipment received the tools with funfair as students and teachers
expressed happiness at the benevolence of the organisation to the
school.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony which was held at the
school premises, Public Relations and Event Manager of the company, Tope
Ashiwaju, explained that the donation was in line with the
organisation’s long term goal of making positive impact in the growth
and development of education in Nigeria.
He added that the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility
activities are usually informed by the results of the comprehensive
needs assessment exercise regularly conducted by the company.
“We are glad it is the turn of Surulere Senior Secondary School and
it is a delightful experience knowing that the impact of this sustained
initiative will not only reflect on the educational performance of these
present students, but will also have an unquantifiable multiplying
effect on generations yet unborn,” he said.
While urging the students to make proper use of the science
facilities and apparatuses, Ashiwaju projected that with such supports
and improvement in science and technology education, Nigeria would
eventually have the required man power in various science related
fields.
He, however, stated that the food firm will return shortly to
evaluate the level of progress and impact the donated equipment has had
on the students’ performance in science subjects.
Principal of the school, Mrs. Aina Olatunbosun, who received the
equipment on behalf of the school, expressed appreciation to the company
and assured that the equipment would be effectively used and maintained
in building future leaders for the nation.
Also, the Project Manager of Lagos State Empowerment Resource Network
(LEARN), Mrs. Bisi Awoyomi, affirmed that the company by virtue of the
donation, had assisted the Lagos State Government in achieving a major
thrust in its long term goal of attaining sustainable growth of
education in the state.
She said, “On behalf of the Lagos State Government, I would like to
thank Dufil Prima Foods Plc for this contribution today. I would like to
use this medium to encourage the students not to shy away from the
sciences, as the country needs more scientists to join the league of
great nations in the world today.”
