The authorities of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)
have warned that they would delist and sanction any Health Management
Organisations (HMOs) delaying payment to hospitals that are service
providers under the scheme.
The warning is sequel to the discovery by Saturday Independent that payment to some hospitals which are service providers under the NHIS are being delayed.
Executive Secretary of the NHIS, Femi Thomas, gave the warning in an exclusive interview with Saturday Independent in Abuja, on Friday.
Thomas, who was represented by the NHIS spokesperson, Ayo Osinlu,
said there was no justifiable reason for any HMO to delay payment to
service providers.
According to him, “We have received reports that there are certain
HMOs which do not remit payment to providers on time and, for us, there
is absolutely no reason under the sun why a provider has to wait
endlessly for his payment to come.
