Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has
said that he is the most experienced candidate to lead Nigeria out of
the present predicament.
Atiku said he would have defeated former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003 if he had contested
He described President Goodluck Jonathan
as an inexperienced leader under whose leadership Nigeria was going
through the worst of times.
Atiku, who is the All Progressives
Congress presidential hopeful, said he,of all the people aspiring to be
president, possessed the best democratic principles to lead Nigeria.
The former Vice President spoke in Jos on
Tuesday while addressing presidential delegates from Plateau State at
his Rayfield House in Jos.
The APC presidential aspirant however
said that he was not desperate for power, as he was ready to support any
candidate that emerged as the party’s flag bearer.
He said, “All these people contesting for
the presidency are inexperienced, compared to my own experience and
qualities in democracy. Having been the Vice President of Nigeria for
good eight years, nobody has broken this record till today.
“Nobody fight the military, in this
country, for democracy like me. My mentor, the late Shehu Yar’Adua lost
his life in the cause of this struggle. I repeat, nobody fight for
democracy like me. For that reason, I am the most experienced politician
amongst those contesting the Presidency.”
The former Vice President said he was the
only strong politician who fought the former President Obansanjo in
2003 against the imposition of a third term, and brought stability to
the polity.
He promised to tackle the security
challenges facing Nigeria by empowering the military with the required
equipment. He said he would create room for more recruitment of security
personnel to curtail insurgency in the country.
The Chairman of the APC in Plateau State,
Mr. Latep Dabang, in his speech, promised that all the state delegates
would massively vote for Atiku because of his pedigree and support for
the party.
He added, “I assure you that no Plateau delegate will vote for anybody apart from Atiku.”
