Twenty-eight students of the Tai Solarin
University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, have obtained
first class degree.
The first class holders are among the 10, 899 persons that graduated from the institution last Friday.
Prominent Nigerians, including the
Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, wife of a former governor of
Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi; and a prominent businessman,
Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa, also received honorary degrees on the occasion.
While the Adetona received the award of
Doctor of Science Education degree in Political Science, Adeleye-Fayemi
and Adegunwa received the awards in Sociology and Business Education,
respectively.
Prof. Toyin Falola was honoured with an
award of Doctor of Education while Olola Olabode Ogunlana was honoured
with the award of Doctor of Education in Literature.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade, urged the graduands to see themselves as source of inspiration for others.
She said, “I plead with you to always
endeavour to promote a culture of personal responsibility, the dignity
of work, the value of education, the merit of service and devotion to a
cause greater than self.”
The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun,
who congratulated them, said TASUED, being the first university of
education in the country, had impacted positively on university
education in Nigeria, and in Africa.
He added, “It has proved to be a great
citadel of learning where academic excellence and good moral training
are impacted on the students. It is gratifying to note that in less than
10 years of being a full-fledged university, Tai Solarin University of
Education, has become one of Nigeria’s best universities.”
